I’m Trying to Digest This Situation
When I saw the video about Justin Bieber speaking on the sexual abuse rumors involving P. Diddy, I felt a knot in my stomach.
Not because I’m a fan of either of them, but because this situation exposes something we’ve always known but pretend not to see: power corrupts and sex is its preferred currency.
For years we’ve heard stories about Diddy’s wild parties. Those white parties, full of celebrities, flowing alcohol and private rooms where everything happened without witnesses. They were always presented as elite fun, glamour, exclusivity.
But now, with the trial underway, the mask has fallen.
What makes me think deeply is how we all knew.
How we all saw the signs. How we all ignored them. That 2009 video where Diddy says he’s going to spend 48 hours with a 15-year-old Justin Bieber and that he “can’t reveal what they’re going to do” because it’s “a 15-year-old kid’s dream” always seemed strange to me.
What adult talks like that about spending time with a teenager?
