I was sitting in a café, gazing at my friend as she prepared to share a story that, according to her, would leave me speechless.

We’d known each other for years, and I knew she wasn’t one to open up easily, so this was already a sign that something intriguing was about to unfold.

Conversation between Me (M) and My Friend (F)

M: Hey, friend! I want you to tell me about that encounter you mentioned a while back. What happened exactly?

F: (laughs) Oh, yeah! I’ll tell you everything. I was getting out of a toxic 6-year relationship that had ended in a mess, here in LA. I found out he was cheating on me, and in a moment of rebellion, I started cheating too.

Even with my driving instructor, I’m not proud of it, but it was a really confused time. I managed to get out of that relationship and decided to look for new connections on a dating site.

As she spoke, I could see the mix of emotions on her face. The sadness of the past, the rebellion, but also a hint of freedom. It was as if, by sharing this story, she was liberating herself from a weight she’d carried for too long.
